This Chinese guy singing an Ilaiyaraaja song is a perfect tribute to the maestro!

You may have spent most of the day lamenting about the alleged cost of Coldplay tickets in India, so here's something to cheer you up.

A fan of legendary Indian music composer Ilaiyaraaja has paid a fitting tribute to the maestro. Qi Mi, a software engineer based in Seattle, posted a video of the music legend's Kalyana Malai Kondadum Penne from the 1989 Tamil film Puthu Puthu Arthangal directed by K. Balachander.

Besides singing the song to perfection in each note, Qi Mi even kept an Indian flag and a miniature Ashoka pillar in the background for effect. Originally from China, Qi Mi reportedly works at Microsoft and had been learning Tamil for a year before singing this song.

It is likely that the maestro actually appreciated the song, since the video was shared by the official YouTube handle of Ilaiyaraaja.
