Happy B'day: Doordarshan turns 57, remembering the best DD shows ever

Doordarshan completes 57 years today. Although in urban India, the channel is switched on only on Independence Day and Republic Day, it was one of the most entertaining and informative channel before private channels took over television. The joy of watching Doordarshan was inexplicable. Adults knew that this was truly a channel they could watch without a red face while kids became the happiest of creatures when the tunes of Jungle Jungle Pata Chala Hain and Malgudi Days began. Let's revisit some of the best shows we have seen over the years.

Malgudi Days:
The sweet melody of this show still lingers in the minds of those who grew up watching Malgudi Days. The series were based on the works of R.K. Narayan, his brother and an acclaimed cartoonist R. K. Laxman was the sketch artist. This series was shot entirely near Agumbe in Shimoga District, Karnataka. Malgudi days was based on the lives of simple people living in the small town of Malgudi, which were filled with small adventures, trials and tribulations. (Source: Photo by YouTube)


Jungle Book:

Shaktimaan:

Fauji:

Byomkesh Bakshi:
Byomkesh Bakshi is a fictional detective in Bengali literature created by Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay. He is one of the most successful and popular characters in Bengali literature. Doordarshan now brings to you the entire series of this literary classic which was televised back in 1993 directed by the brilliant Basu
